Wisdom from experienced shrimp keepers.
Always test your source water (tap or RO) before adding it to the tank. Know what you're putting in!
Shrimp can't handle rapid temp swings. Match temperature within 1-2ยฐF during water changes. Drip acclimate new shrimp for 1+ hours.
Even trace amounts of copper are lethal to shrimp. Check fertilizers, medications, and tap water. Always use shrimp-safe products.
Stable parameters are more important than "perfect" numbers. A steady pH of 7.2 beats one that swings between 6.5 and 7.0.
For Caridina, use active buffering substrate (ADA Amazonia, Brightwell). It naturally lowers pH. Replace every 12-18 months.
Add IAL to your tank โ tannins have antifungal properties, and shrimp love grazing on the biofilm!
